On Wednesday (31), the new Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, announced that the portfolio will have an extraordinary secretariat to combat COVID-19. On the occasion, the minister took the opportunity to comment on the proposal for the purchase of vaccines by the private sector and, also, on measures aimed at the rational use of oxygen in hospitals.

“The Ministry of Health has made an effort to dialogue with the scientific community. Here, I make my visit to the Federal University of São Paulo (USP) very clear. I had a very productive discussion with the professors at USP, who are collaborating with us. in the elaboration of protocols “, announced the minister, who is the fourth of the current government.

With regard to the proposal for the purchase of vaccines by the private sector, Queiroga mentions that it was received with great satisfaction. “These are important actions and add to the other initiatives already taken by the Legislature, which have been very useful for the Brazilian population”, he said, at the time.

Regarding the measures to contain the advance of the pandemic, the minister made his bet on science clear: “The commitment of the MS is with solid scientific practices, which can bring improvements in the results that we are obtaining so far in mortality. The measures aim to reduce mortality; they aim, above all, to reduce the number of cases that put pressure on the health system “, declared Queiroga.

The minister finally spoke of the use of oxygen for the treatment of patients with COVID-19: “We must offer oxygen to those who need oxygen. We must observe in hospitals if there are no losses in the pipes, that is, save this resource. to use in those who need it, who are, above all, patients with COVID-19 “, he concluded. According to Queiroga, 13 tank trucks were imported from Canada to help distribute oxygen throughout Brazil. In addition, part of the oxygen cylinders aimed at the industry will be designated for medicine.
