Since Monday, 5, the city of São Paulo has been testing covid-19 on education professionals. In the first days, the action was marked by agglomerations, lack of collection kits and complaints from the union about the type of test applied.

Technical assistant in education, Jaqueline Sales took the test on the first day. The exam was scheduled for 11 am, but with the crowd, she only managed to get out of the sky Turkeys after 12:30. “I am working in person at EMEF and, even with all the care, the risk is imminent. So, I decided to take the test. ”

Jaqueline says that she travels every day from Franco da Rocha to Perus, in the north, with public transport. “In October 2020, when we tested, it was at school, much faster, organized and less risky”, he reports.

To Twitter, the city explained that the action is a partnership between the municipal departments of education and health, and has the objective of mapping it out to support actions to combat the pandemic in the municipal school system. The municipality adopted serological testing, criticized by the Sindsep (Union of Workers in the Public Administration of São Paulo).

In a note, the management Bruno Covas (PSDB) reported that the serological test is indicated for people who are asymptomatic. “If any server presents or reports symptoms at the time of collection, they should be referred to a UBS for clinical evaluation and RT-PCR“he explained.

After being collected, the samples are sent to the reference UBS of the sky (Unified Educational Center), where the professionals are being tested, and analyzed by the municipal laboratories. The forecast for the disclosure of the result is 72 working hours, according to the city hall.

PhD in Health Sciences and Adjunct Professor of Collective Health at UNIRIO (Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro), Maria Aparecida Patroclo believes that the measure adopted is not the most correct one.

“Having non-reactive serology does not mean not having had contact with the virus, as we know that mild and asymptomatic forms may not produce immunoglobulin as a response. Having immunoglobulin does not mean having protection, as it depends on the presence of neutralizing antibodies or cell defense “, he explains.

To support health measures, the epidemiologist suggests that there is a coordinated monitoring of professionals after testing. In it, the category should report within “24 hours the beginning of any respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms for immediate isolation, quarantine of home and affective contacts, and the RT-PCR exam after 72 h”.

The advice is reinforced by the epidemiologist doctor at UFBA (Federal University of Bahia), Eduardo Martins Netto, who reinforces that the testing does not have an individual response, but, rather, it brings a percentage of a profile of the population, in this case, the health professionals. Education.

To support the suggestion, use the case of Manaus as an example. “At the time of testing, 60% of the people tested had antibodies, which was very likely and which we call herd blocking,” he says. However, people eventually experienced a drop in these antibodies, which caused the second wave in the capital of Amazonas.

“Scientific studies still do not have a consensus as to whether IgG in covid-19 lasts for months and then disappears, or how many months it lasts. All of this makes subsequent mapping difficult, as I can find a lower rate of IgG carriers compared to previous mappings, and this was seen in the EpiCovid project “, explains epidemiologist Maria Aparecida Patroclo.

The tests are a recommendation of the management of Bruno Covas (PSDB) for the face-to-face return of classes, scheduled to happen next Monday, the 12th, in case the emergency phase is not extended by the state government.

By phone, the Municipal Health Secretariat informed that testing is one of the actions for the return of the classes in person, but that, if it does not happen, the results of the tests will still serve for the mapping of actions.

Vaccination of teachers begins on the 12th

According to an announcement by Governor João Doria (PSDB) in March, education professionals from the municipal, state and private networks in São Paulo over the age of 47 will receive the first dose of the covid-19 vaccine starting on Monday, 12.

Professionals must register on the Vacina Já website and, after receiving an authorization by e-mail, must attend the vaccination site. Municipalities will have the autonomy to choose location and time.
