Portaluppi, 58, performed a test required by the Rio Grande do Sul Football Federation on Saturday to be able to play for the Gre-Nal and the result was negative. At dawn on Monday, the coach had a fever and complained of pain in the body during the night, in addition to inflammation in the throat.

With the symptoms, he was vetoed for the trip for Wednesday’s game, valid for the third phase of the Libertadores, against Independiente del Valle, in Ecuador. And he took another exam for Covid-19 and the result was positive. Even before having confirmation, the technician was isolated and started to be followed by the doctors of Grêmio.

Assistant Alexandre Mendes, who led the team in some matches at Gauchão, will be responsible for the team in Ecuador. Grêmio trains this Tuesday in Quito. The location and time have not yet been informed.
