IPC-S registers inflation of 1% in March, says FGV

The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) registered inflation of 1% in March of this year, above the 0.54% of February. With the result, released today (5) by Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), the IPC-S accumulates a rate of 6.11% in 12 months.ebc.gif?w=696&ssl=1

The main contribution to March inflation came from transportation, which had a rate of 3.89% in the month. Among the highlights of the group of expenses is the price of gasoline, which rose 11.05%.

Then there is the housing expense group, which had an inflation rate of 0.75%, mainly due to the rise in residential electricity tariff prices (1.02%).

Other groups of expenses with high prices were miscellaneous expenses (0.22%), health and personal care (0.57%), clothing (0.11%), food (0.03%) and communication (0.01 %).

The education, reading and recreation group was the only one to register deflation (drop in prices): -0.37%. The IPC-S is calculated based on prices collected in seven capitals: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador.
