The death of retiree Antônio Nunes, 67, happened less than 24 hours before the death of his wife, housewife Francisca Nunes, 54. His burial was buried on Saturday (3/4); hers on Easter Sunday.
Married for 47 years, Antônio and Francisca leave four children and seven grandchildren. They all live in the same condominium, in Sol Nascente. “Our family is very shaken. It is not normal to bury the father one day and the mother the next ”, laments cleaning assistant Lucineide Nunes, 46, the couple’s daughter.
Antônio and Francisca were from Maranhão. They had contact with the coronavirus on a trip to their homeland with the aim of looking for Antônio’s sister – Maria Azevedo Silva, 81 – in order to bring her to Brasília.

As she had been with the disease for a long time, Maria was the first to seek medical help in early March. She passed away a week later. Both were admitted to the Regional Hospital of Asa Norte (Hran).
The family managed to gather their bed inside the hospital, but this was short-lived, because soon Antônio needed to be transferred to an intensive care unit. “In the ICU, the physiotherapist managed to make a video call between my father and my mother, and everyone was very moved to see their love”, remembers Lucineide.
“The doctor said that she did everything to save both of them, because she saw this love and care between them and the family. The children, the son-in-law, the daughter-in-law, the grandchildren, all volunteered to take care until the last moment ”, she reports.
Now, the family seeks to overcome mourning and honor the memory of the family’s founders. “When they were alive, we used to say that when one died, the other would go right away, and that’s what happened. We are living in mourning, because our parents were very loved. Our condo will no longer be the same, ”said Lucineide.
