On Sunday (4), Portugal registered 193 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus, the lowest number of daily notifications in the country since August last year, on the eve of the beginning of the second phase of the relaxation plan of restrictive measures imposed to contain the pandemic. of covid-19.
According to the bulletin presented by the General Directorate of Health (DGS), four new deaths due to infection by the pathogen were accounted for today.
The number of positives recorded today is the lowest since August 25, when 192 detection tests confirmed the presence of the new coronavirus in Portuguese inhabitants.
This Sunday’s drop in cases can be explained by the lower number of tests performed yesterday, the first day of the weekend, and Friday (2), which was a public holiday in the country.
Altogether, since the beginning of the pandemic, 823,335 positives for the new coronavirus were counted, and 16,879 deaths caused by covid-19.
According to DGS, 26,134 cases are currently considered active. In hospitals, there are 517 people hospitalized with covid-19 symptoms, five more than yesterday. In the ICUs, there are 117 people occupying beds, nine less than in the comparison with the previous day.

As of this Monday (5), Portugal will enter phase number 2 of deflation, after a first relaxation of measures that took place on the 15th of March.

Tomorrow, students from 10 to 15 years old will return to the classrooms, after, in the first stage, the children up to nine years old have returned to face-to-face education.
It will also be allowed to open small commercial establishments, museums and gyms – which will not be able to offer group classes. In addition, the ban on driving between cities in the country will end on weekends.
