According to the data available on the Finance Portal, by the end of this Thursday, 565,903 IRS declarations had been delivered.
Of that total, 479,770 are taxpayers classified in the 1st Phase, that is, people who in 2020 only obtained income from dependent work and / or pensions, and 86,133 from taxpayers who earned other types of income.
This is the second consecutive year in which more than half a million people submit the IRS declaration on the first day of the deadline, a level that in 2019 was only reached on the second day.
This Thursday, at the beginning of the night, the Ministry of Finance had advanced that “by 19:35 458,420 IRS declarations had already been submitted”.
Although officially, the delivery deadline started on April 1st, on the last day of March it was already possible to do simulations on the portal and even submit the declaration, which is why, until 24:00 on Wednesday, the Portal das Finance registered the delivery of 198,399 Individual Taxes (IRS).
In the last few years, the average term of refund processing has seen successive decreases, reaching 11 days in 2019.
However, in 2020, with the start of the IRS handover process coinciding with the first general containment, the first repayments only began to be paid on April 21.
This year, the expectation is that they begin to be processed earlier, as indicated by the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, António Mendonça Mendes, in an interview with Lusa, without, however, setting a date.
The submission of the IRS annual declaration on income earned in 2020 started today, extending until June 30, with almost two-thirds of taxpayers being able, if they so wish, to benefit from automatic IRS.
As has been the case since 2018, the submission of the IRS declaration must be made exclusively electronically, which implies that taxpayers are in possession of a valid password to access the Finance Portal.
With the extension of the automatic IRS to new types of income, the potential universe of households that can benefit from this automation this year amounts to 3.5 million, according to the number indicated by the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, António Mendonça Mendes, to Lusa, which is equivalent to almost two thirds of the 5.6 million declarations delivered last year.
