Amanda has three children. Natalie and Emanuel spend the afternoon at an institution in Belo Horizonte. They get lunch, snacks, recreation and even take computer classes. “The reception center takes my son off the street through the workshops and is giving them an opportunity to have a better life”, praises the housewife.

At the site, 200 young people and 60 elderly people are welcomed and, with the pandemic, families come in search of hygiene kits and basic baskets. The service continues only because the institution received R $ 439 thousand in income tax deductions last year.

“The income from the income tax is extremely fundamental for our social work to continue helping families, supporting families, and giving meaning to their lives, transforming their lives”, says Clarice Dias, coordination assistant at the Betânia Welcome Center .

While some taxpayers rush to receive a tax return, others worry about the tax due. And it is time to pay the debt that the donation can be made. Instead of the money going to the tax authorities, part goes to children’s, teenagers and elderly rights funds, and the taxpayer can still choose which city he wants to donate to, in any state.

Donations can be made at the time of submission of the declaration. The system will calculate what percentage the person can donate. Just fill in the form and indicate the amount, up to 6% of the tax payable.

“The person will not pay more tax for that. He will stop paying the government a part and will allocate this difference wherever he wants. In other words, he is exercising the possibility for him to choose where part of his tax goes” , explains José Carlos Fonseca, tax auditor of the Federal Revenue.

Last year, more than 2,300 institutions that welcome children were benefited in Brazil by the deductions. The amount raised exceeded R $ 80 million.

Ronaldo is an engineer in Belo Horizonte and has always donated part of the tax due to institutions in the Jequitinhonha Valley, such as daycare centers and hospitals. And it has already helped a lot. “It doesn’t hurt my pocket and does a job of the greatest importance for a lot of people who need it. Last year they called me to visit the daycare center, there was even a tribute for me. I was thrilled, I cried a lot”.
