Children are thrown from a 4m barrier to illegal immigration

US federal officials released a video yesterday with images of two Ecuadorian children being thrown from a 4.25 meter high barrier on the border between the United States and Mexico. Despite the risk of the illegal immigration operation, the girls, aged three and five, were unharmed.

According to the Associated Press news agency, the children were being accompanied by coyotes across the border. After throwing the children over the high wall, however, the smuggler would have abandoned them. US Border Patrol officers see the incident as dire.

After the incident, agents went to the girls, who were in shock, and sent them for tests at a hospital. Upon confirming that they did not suffer injuries from the fall, the agents referred them to a temporary detention facility. Ecuadorian girls are now awaiting a response from the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Chief patrol agent Gloria I. Chavez of the El Paso sector, located between the states of Texas and New Mexico, revealed that the adult seen in the video was spotted sitting behind the barrier by an agent using a camera with long-range lens. According to the agency, the person hid the children before throwing them over the barrier.

“We are currently working with our law enforcement partners in Mexico and trying to identify these relentless human smugglers to hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said the chief agent in a statement.

The immigration of children and adolescents is an issue to be addressed by the government of President Joe Biden. According to the agency, hundreds of minors are in need of shelter after they illegally entered the United States.
