Two Ecuadorian girls aged three and five were thrown in the middle of the night over the four-meter high border fence between Mexico and the American territory, being rescued by the United States Customs and Border Protection Service (CBP).

“On Tuesday night, an agent in Santa Teresa who used a technological camera observed a drug dealer shooting two minors over a 14 foot (4 meter) high border barrier,” the border patrol said on Wednesday (31). in a statement.

The camera operator alerted agents who were at a checkpoint, who headed for the remote location where the incident occurred.

The girls were taken to a CBP facility in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, to be evaluated by medical personnel and were then taken to a hospital where they were discharged and are currently in the custody of this organization.

“I am appalled by the way the traffickers villainously threw innocent minors out of a 14-foot barrier last night,” said El Paso’s head of the border section, Gloria I. Chavez.

Chavez said American agents are working with authorities in Mexico to identify those responsible.

“Had it not been for the surveillance of our agents, using mobile technology, these two young sisters would have been exposed to the harsh conditions of the desert for hours,” he added.

The United States is facing a sharp increase in arrivals at the border of migrants, especially Central Americans who say they are fleeing poverty and violence in their countries, with a recent average of almost 500 unaccompanied children crossing over daily.

President Joe Biden’s government faces growing pressure to manage the situation at the border and to house unaccompanied minors.

According to official statistics, on Tuesday the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) held 12,918 migrant children in its care, while the CBP housed 5,285.
