The shooting took place around 5:30 pm (9:30 pm, Brasilia time), on the top floor of a small office building. According to the newspaper Los Angeles Times, agents who arrived at the scene were shot and then responded.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Twitter that he was shaken by the shooting. “Horrifying and moving,” he wrote. “Our hearts are with the families affected by this terrible tragedy tonight.”
Congresswoman Katie Porter, a Democrat whose district includes part of Orange, also expressed her sadness on the social network. “I am deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County and continue to keep the victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more,” she said. “My team and I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
The attack comes after two massacres in the past few weeks in the United States, which re-open the debate on the proliferation of firearms in the country. On March 22, an attacker killed ten people in a Colorado supermarket, less than a week after a man killed eight people in Asian massage parlors in Atlanta. (With international agencies).
