Ministry of Health distributes 9.1 million doses of vaccine this Thursday

This week, the Ministry of Health will send about 11 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19 to Brazilian states and the Federal District. This is the largest quantity distributed, at one time, since the beginning of the national immunization campaign.

According to the folder, a shipment of 9,128,000 doses – 8.4 million from Coronavac, produced by the Butantan Institute, and 728,000 from AstraZeneca / Oxford, will be sent to all of Brazil this Thursday (1/4). manufactured at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). In addition, the arrival, next Saturday (3/4), of 2.1 million units of AstraZeneca is expected, totaling more than 11 million.

The doses will be destined for health workers and the elderly from 65 to 79 years old, according to the report of the Secretariat of Health Surveillance (SVS). The vaccination of part of the professionals of the security and rescue force and of the Armed Forces, categories that work on the front line to combat the pandemic, was also advanced.

Part of the immunizers will also be used for the second dose in health workers and the elderly between 70 and 79 years old.

This Wednesday (3/31), in an extraordinary meeting of the collegiate board, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) decided to approve the emergency use of the Janssen vaccine. Johnson & Johnson’s formula is 85% effective against severe cases in clinical trials and is the only one developed so far that is applied in a single dose.

At the beginning of March, the Ministry of Health published, in an extra edition of the Official Gazette (DOU), notices of waiver of bidding for the acquisition of 38 million doses of Janssen’s vaccine against Covid-19. Immunizers should be delivered by December 2021.
