The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said on Wednesday (31) that it is only expected to receive and distribute just over half of the doses of vaccines against Covid-19 previously announced by the federal government for April.
The number was reduced from 47.3 million, released by the Ministry of Health on March 19, to 25.5 million. That is, only 53% of what was promised previously.
“In relation to vaccines, in April, a forecast of 25.5 million doses. There are delays in the delivery of the two main national industries, Butantan and Fiocruz, there is a question of the Indian vaccine, which Anvisa yesterday suspended the plant ”, said the minister.
The suspension of the “plant” mentioned by Queiroga is related to the inspections made by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) at the pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech, in India, responsible for Covaxin.
This Wednesday (31), Anvisa denied the request to import 20 million doses of Covaxin, indicating “uncertainty about the efficacy and safety of the vaccine”, since data necessary for the analysis were not presented.
