After AstraZeneca’s covid-19 vaccine administration was suspended again in Germany for people under 60 and for people under 55 in Canada, the British government reiterated the safety of the vaccine, ensuring that it is “ 100% confident ”in its effectiveness.
“It is a safe vaccine and the distribution of vaccines in the UK is saving lives across the country on a daily basis,” said Robert Jenrick, housing secretary, quoted by Sky News. “Recent studies, for example from the British Institute of Public Health, have shown that thousands of lives have been saved since the beginning of this year thanks to our vaccination program. People should go ahead and get a vaccine. I will certainly do it when my turn comes, ”he added.
It should be noted that the AstraZeneca vaccine remains in the spotlight, after being suspended in several countries due to some cases of clot formation in vaccinated people, but also after strong criticisms of the pharmaceutical company due to delayed deliveries.
The vaccine had initially been recommended only for people under 65 years of age, as clinical trials in older people were lacking, however, the most serious adverse effects were seen in younger people, leading some countries to suspend administration vaccine in younger age groups.
In the face of controversy, this Tuesday AstraZeneca announced that its vaccine against covid-19 changed its name to Vaxzevria.
