Two children from Ecuador were thrown over a four-meter-high fence that separates the United States of America from Mexico.
The two sisters, aged five and three, were launched by a drug dealer, right on the border between the two countries, in Mt. Cristo Rey, New Mexico, near El Paso, during this Tuesday night. The minors were later rescued by US customs and border services and taken to the hospital, adianta a NBC.
The children have already been discharged and are under the custody of US authorities, who are trying to identify traffickers. Border patrol authorities believe it is an action by human trafficking groups, and have characterized the action as “terrible and cruel”. The head of the Department of Homeland Security also made statements about the case, considering the abuse of children by people linked to human trafficking “morally reprehensible”.
Official statistics indicate that there are more than 18,000 migrant children in US custody.
