England escaped the horror of the loss of John Stones.
ENGLAND – POLAND 2-1:
The English national team was about to mess up the victory in Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier against Poland, before Harry Maguire knocked in the winning goal five minutes before the end.
England won the match at Wembley 2-1 and now tops Group I after winning three of three matches so far in qualifying.
– It is an important victory, we play for a place in the World Cup, Maguire says to ITV after the match.
The match winner defends stopper colleague Stones who was to blame for Poland equalizing to 1-1 in the second half.
– We do not like to make mistakes. Sometimes we are to blame for the goals, we are not perfect, but John made up for it tonight and he will come back even stronger, says the United player.

However, it looked like a long time to go towards scoring at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Harry Kane sent the home team into the lead before the break after scoring on penalties.
But the Poles fought back when Manchester City stopper John Stones messed it up in the England defense. It took advantage of Arkadiusz Milik who passed the ball on to Jakub Moder who equalized for the guests.
The Stones have been out of the heat of the English national team for a long time, but have this week gained renewed confidence from national team manager Gareth Southgate.
It could be that Southgate for a few minutes regretted it Wednesday night.

Stone, however, was to strike back.
At a corner kick five minutes before the end, the City stopper rose the highest inside the field. The Stones headed back to stopper colleague Maguire who unmarked charged the foot of the shot. The ball went straight into the goal behind a chanceless Wojciech Szczesny in the Polish goal.
The TV pictures showed a relieved Stones who received congratulations from his teammates after his goal-giving pass.
The Poles never managed to fight back and England can thus be very happy with a solid national team gathering.
Premier League games are now waiting for most of the players this coming weekend.
