US considers ‘diplomatic’ rapport with North Korea on nuclear issues – International

The United States could consider “diplomacy” with North Korea to break the deadlock in the North Korean nuclear program, the White House reported on Wednesday.

“We have a clear objective in relation to North Korea, the denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula, said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

“We will continue to apply sanctions, of course. We are consulting our allies and partners. We are ready to consider some form of diplomacy if this leads to denuclearization,” he added.

United States President Joe Biden has remained silent about his intentions towards Pyongyang, citing this review in progress to develop a new strategy, following his predecessor Donald Trump’s attempt to conduct direct diplomacy with the North Korean leader.

Trump’s policy has made no progress in denuclearizing this isolated nation.

However, the US president warned that the United States would “retaliate” in the event of a North Korean “escalation” after the launch of the Pyongyang missile was reported last month.
