US considers diplomatic rapprochement with North Korea on nuclear issues | World

“We have a clear objective in relation to North Korea, it is the denuclearization” of the Korean peninsula, said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

“We will continue to apply sanctions, of course. We are consulting our allies and partners. We are ready to consider some form of diplomacy if this leads to denuclearization,” he added.

U.S. President Joe Biden has been silent about his intentions towards Pyongyang, citing this ongoing review to develop a new strategy, following his predecessor Donald Trump’s attempt to conduct direct diplomacy with the North Korean leader.

Trump’s policy has made no progress in denuclearizing this isolated nation.

However, the US president warned that the United States would “retaliate” in the event of a North Korean “escalation” after the Pyongyang missile launch was reported last month.
