The case is being updated.

$ 150 million will go to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). In addition, $ 75 million in financial assistance to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and $ 10 million to peace-building measures.

In the past, the Biden government has pledged $ 15 million for vaccination against covid-19 in the Palestinian territories.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says in a statement that the aid is in line with US interests and values.

At the same time as the amount of aid was announced, the White House confirmed in a statement that President Joe Biden supports a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict. Biden conveyed this on Wednesday in a telephone conversation with Jordan’s King Abdullah.

UNRWA was established in 1948 and today assists around 5.5 million Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

The United States has always been UNRWA’s largest contributor, but in 2018 President Donald Trump cut all support for putting pressure on the Palestinian Authority.
