Mother and daughter die after car falls off a 30-meter cliff

A mother and daughter died after passing through a panoramic viewpoint and the car in which they were falling from a 30 meter high cliff in California (USA). The police are investigating possible causes of the accident.

David deRutte, a spokesman for the state Highway Patrol, told NBC that it was unclear why his mother, Maria Teixeira, 64, continued driving after hitting a barrier. According to the officer, she “was driving at normal speed, heading towards the cliff and did not stop”.

Maria’s daughter, Elizabeth Correia, 41, was identified as a passenger in the car. The accident was witnessed by eight to ten people, as reported by the police. Images from the scene show the SUV car they were in, flipped over after the accident.

A vehicle inspection will be carried out to determine if the accident was caused by damage to the car, just as an autopsy can confirm the hypothesis that Maria might have suffered a health problem while driving the car.

The mother and daughter are from San Francisco and were traveling through California. According to the San Jose Mercury newspaper, both worked as educators at a local college and were respected by the community.
