Juho Sarvikas, former head of Products at HMD Global / Nokia Mobile, will assume, next Monday (12), the positions of president of Qualcomm in North America and global vice president of the company. The confirmation was revealed by the brand’s senior vice president of Global Business, Jim Cathey, in a post on the social network Twitter.

The executive, who has held the position of director of Nokia brand products since 2006, has yet to reveal his next steps with Qualcomm, but in response to Cathey’s publication, Sarvikas said he can’t wait to work with the company’s partners in the “epicenter of the 5G revolution”.

Previously, it was believed that the executive would remain at HMD Global until the end of April. However, despite the early departure, Sarvikas is still expected to present his latest event as Director of Products for Nokia Mobile, which will take place on Thursday, April 8. On the occasion, new lines of intermediate and basic smartphones are expected.

History of ups and downs

Juho Sarvikas has been ahead of Nokia branded cell phones for 15 years and has accumulated a history of ups and downs. Before the HMD Global phase, the executive was responsible for the success of the Windows Phone operating system in the United States at the beginning of the fight with Android and iOS. In the current position of the company, Sarvikas relaunched the successes Nokia 3310, 8110 and 6300.

However, it was not all flowers. One of the most “famous” problems that fell on the executive’s back was the delay of Nokia 8.3, which would be presented with the film 007 – No Time to Die, in 2019, but was released only in October last year – without the film. The brand’s premium line also suffered from some problems that left it far behind competitors, such as the delay in launching the Nokia 9 PureView and the indefinite postponement of a successor to the device, leaving Nokia without a representative in the line tops category until nowadays.
