The first case of the Indian variant identified in the USA

IResearchers at Stanford University announced this Saturday that they had identified at least one case of the new variant of India in California, USA. This will be the first case in the country.

This new variant will have two mutations, one of them also identified in the Californian variant of the disease, according to the institution’s spokeswoman, Lisa Kim.

The variant was found in a patient in the San Francisco area by the Clinical Virology Laboratory at this school.

“We believe that this is the first case of this variant in the United States,” says the institution.

The new variant was first identified last month in India. In the specific case of the variant detected in India, there is a double mutation, that is, two mutations – E484Q and L452R – that converge on the same virus. “These mutations [duplas] provide immune escape and increased infectivity, “said the Indian health ministry.
